I think that their motor failed and they couldn't outrun the storm.

They were headed tot Florida and were already underway as the storm overtook them

It's sad they lost two. They had those suits that keep them warm and have the lights and radio locators on them.

But the Coast Guard cannot lift them out of a raft and they had to enter the water.

That's never a good thing in a bad sea. I'm not defending anyone I think it's premature to make a judgment.

Daylight will bring the news of what happened.

The storm did move faster than expected once the northeaster part merged with the hurricane. IT relatively flew over New Jersey and past Philadelphia. That might have lessened the damage.

Morning will tell.

How does it look out your window? Are there lights?

Pittsburgh has already issued flash flood warnings for the Monogahela, Allegheny, and Ohio. Lock #3 is specifically cited.

The rivers are currently at 11 feet and flood stage is 20 which they expect to hit the 20 foot flood stage on Wednesday. That's a lot of water like gigatons of water...

Every so often I hear winds. No thunder. I can hear heavy rain periodically on my roof. That is what you see on Radar -- intense yellow and red for rain and not thunderstorms. It is 39 deg F which is cold enough to cause all sorts of bad things on bridges and exposed roads

Not to mention the wind is 25 to 30 mph and I was outside earlier to get the water tank filled and the rain, wind and cold just chill to the bone.

AS I suspect, the Allegheny Mountains east of me are showing magenta for freezing rain. Look for Johnstown and Greensburg and Somerset PA in that area down to Morgantown WV in a diagonal line. Those are all areas that are higher than me. Pretty country those mountains but snowy in cold weather.

All my buddies in and around Morgantown West Virginia are seeing snow at the higher altitudes.

Considering that I'm nearly 400 miles from New York City and 1000 feet above sea level this storm was a beastly monster.

We're getting annoying wind off of it in west central Indiana, and I really do wish those Easterners would keep their special weather to themselves.

The lights are flickering often and have gone out three times for about 30 seconds in the last half hour. I can hear my building creaking under the force of 100 mph wind gusts, something I've never heard before. The next 6-8 hours are supposed to be the worst. I hope I'm still intact and with electricity by then. I don't dare use the elevators for fear I'd be trapped.

I'm all the way over in Cleveland, OH. We're getting blasted with nonstop rain, wind gusts as high as 30-40 mph, 10-foot waves coming off of Lake Erie, and constant power flickers as the wind rattles the power lines. And we're a whopping 470 miles from New York. I can only imagine how bad this is there. By the lake yesterday night, we could barely walk in the wind. Over the lake, it was blowing at around 40 mph, and is forecast to get as high as 60 mph by tomorrow.

The Right Coast has some of the oldest Nuclear Power plants.

Are we going to witness a Right Coast Fukushima, but more so?

Recent reports show radioactive Cesium is not disappearing as fast as predicted around Japan.

Nuclear, it only takes one oopsy.

NYC may not need to turn on their light.

It might glow in the dark.

Glad you made it through. I hope the other people in the storm's wake do as well, but the last report I heard attributed 5 deaths in NYC to the storm and that's sad.

Great news Bob, I think we were all worried glad you came through it untouched.
