Here in God's Country (the Russian River Valley, north of San Francisco), the morning started off cold and foggy. Once the fog burned off, the thermometer rose to about 70°F. We're supposed to be in the low 80s by the Fourth of July.

I trotted to the back of the property, down the hill, across the dying bean field, into the creek, up that about halfway to the road (1/10) mile, back across the field, up the hill, and back to the house. I didn't look or smell too good when I was done.

And I'm still not losing this last 10 lbs. I want to! Damn...

Paolo did YOU get some rain last night?

Where I am at (not too far from Paolo) we got a small thunder storm with enough rain to make some (very) temporary puddles. It was not enough to break the drought or bring the dead grass to life again...

We also have a temporary ban on fireworks. No July 4th this year...

No, A-1, we got nothing.

I could hear it, smell it, see the lightning in the distance, but that was it.

Funny thing is, Intellicast radar has had this horizontal band of rain indication on it for like 48 hours now, and it's NOT rain.

It's a ghost return or frequency return of some kind, but it isn't rain. It showed my county last night in dark green with spots of yellow.

When I zoomed in, it was right over us. There weren't even any clouds when I went outside.

It's not that the heat bothers me (it doesn't), but it's the damage it's doing to everything. Despite daily watering, I've lost most of my peppers, and my tomatoes aren't bearing up well at all.

irstEnergy Corp. reported at about 6 p.m. that 2,228 Washington County customers remained out; 1,134 in Fayette were without power; 1,806 in Greene; and 437 in Westmoreland. FirstEnergy updates its outage count every 15 minutes, according to its website.

The worst I had (near Washington PA) was a minute or two of power outage two nights ago and last night after 2am, they kept turning the power on and off for only about 10 to 15 seconds each time. That means that they are fixing a main power line and they need it dead so the repairman can touch it. I think that they fix everything with no power on by simply checking continuity and then reconnect the main line in a 10 second outage.

I have emergency lights that blink when they do that and a clock that blinks "12:00" and wakes me up.

The storms went south of me. They were extra bad thunderstorms.

I just about overdid it today, which for me to be affected by heat, is unusual.

Low seventies here in Coastal, O.C. and due to cool off a bit.

We shouldn't all suffer.

But, I would not refuse a cool rain storm.

Paolo, what happens when it is this hot is that the clouds come but they are high and then when the rain occurs the water evaporates before it hits the ground.

In worst-case scenarios the lightning hits the ground ans sets stuff on fire... Happens a LOT out west...

Try watering overnight and not heavy watering, just soak everything with sprinklers. That will help. The water will not evaporate as fast and the plants can absorb more water. Start your watering about dusk and continue until 9 AM or so when it starts to get hot. O.K.?
