Re: There's Always The Weather
The Inch of snow that is still on the ground in places will be there for a while, its to cold to melt, near 10f this morning. However when it does start to warm up the snow what there is of it will be gone in a day or two. As for spring, that wont happen for a couple months, we don't plant until May 15th. Next week we go back to day light saving time, but we still only gain a few minutes sun light a day, its different depending on where you live, its not what we set the clock to.

Re: There's Always The Weather
I saw some bees.

Not around my flowering trees

They were numerous but, small and scrany, on the backyard fence covered in flowering honeysuckle.
I have been looking for a bee for several days. Blaming their absence for Apricot tree failure.
Moi
Bees do not mess with me. I can garden safely around them.
Mosquitoes and wasps prefer me over anyone nearby.

Re: There's Always The Weather
We were promised rain Friday, Saturday, Sunday and showering on Monday.
Well the rain did not arrive until Saturday and yielded a whole one and a half inches.
It came in buckets and came in sprinkles, with wind too.
Sunday, no rain in sight. Clear skies and a wicked dry wind that sucks the heat out-o-ya although it is a tad above 50F.
Maybe, just maybe if the Federals dropped their unconstitutional Weather Service and let the Free Market yield the best weather forecast possible, I would get more rain.
And less wind.
Not one apricot
They were so good, so yumbily apricoty last year. The tree had fewer flowers and is leafing already.
The dwarf Lime tree is making some flowers as are the Lemon trees. The Blood Orange remains stubborn.
I discovered it is not insects in the night attacking my seedlings but, a flock of birds in the day really rip them out of the ground and attack my sweet shelling peas too. They will soon face an obstruction net.
That is the Weather and Nature report from slightly less then Paradise, California.
It's the cold, dry, nasty wind. A paradise killer.

Re: There's Always The Weather
80 this weekend, lows in the 60s yes warmest on record, should be in the high 70's all week. As I looked at the weather around the country the only place that was having bad and cold weather was Moi's paradise.

Re: There's Always The Weather
It rained. For a few hours, it rained. Mostly Oregon mist, some lite rain with ten minute episodes of gully washers. Maybe about a half an inch. Not the storm I was promised but, the last two fizzled out also. Better then no rain.
The loquats are turning yellow but aren't there yet. Nor my 3 avocados. The lemon and lime trees are flowering but not the blood orange. The cherry trees seemed "stalled" while the leafing apricot has two small fruits <yip-pee>.
A day or so of clean air before - the pollen - particulates saturate the air. That's what happens when you water the desert. A fav is the pollen of wild mustard introduced by the early Spanish to mark, El Camino Real (The Kings Highway). It wasn't paved and the mustard did not stay in a line by the road.
You don't have to be allergic to a specific species to suffer irritation of this high pollen (particulates) count.
Any members East of California getting some? Storms. Rain. etc.

What's a Weatherer I wonder

Re: There's Always The Weather
Rain ceased, clear, sunny and a extra cold 60F. All that evaporation in action I think.
But, what brought me back to this thread was the weather news that Bob3 and Dave
are gonna get a hard freeze. Happy Spring. Winter at last. Crops of the Midwest are going to suffer. Enjoy more California produce. Remember East of Eden.
Beware the hard freeze. You better stay up all night in case your heater fails and your sleep goes into hypothermia coma Maybe someone should stand heater guard while another sleeps. Like a paleolithic fire watch.
Now if some of that warm western moist air would just hit that unseasonal cold air dome, we might have an upload for the Blizzard thread before Summer.

Re: There's Always The Weather
I turned up the big bad thermostat from 70 to 72 for the night, put a blanket on the bed, called in four dogs (not just three) and hauled wood for three miles in the raging sunlight under a clear sky to keep the home-fires burning.
Smile Moi. You're falling into the blues...
Find something to laugh at.
Find something to enjoy.
Go out and smell the newly arrived bums as they remove their winter clothing on the streets...
Sniff the newly fallen dog droppings and the new grass. Get ready for lawn mowing, hay fever and asthma season.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Snow? we have not seen snow in a month, we have had days in the 70's and hit 80 once. Everything is in bloom, I can tell my eyes are watering and my head is stopped up, and I have been sneezing all day, the bird are building nests, the ticks are out, already had to get one off my little dog and spring is hear, snow shovels are put away, gardening tools are out, life is good.
