Re: There's Always The Weather
It finally happened, we have a cold snap, got up this morning and it was 40f outside, I went to my garden and harvested everything that was left including this 30lb pumpkin, I brought in all the tools and hose, etc. put everything away, its warmed up to about 50f with a slight wind from the west, DAM if this keeps up I may need to put on socks and shoes, but only if it continues. I still think its nice enough to ware shorts and t-shirt, however I did take the A/C out but left the windows open with a fan running. Perfect weather.

Re: There's Always The Weather
It's 58F here, and lightly raining with a stiff breeze. Took the dog out. I had on boots, jeans, a hoodie, and turned right around to come back in and put on an undershirt, hoodie again, and an insulated hunting vest and a stocking cap. I nearly froze to death. I have 2 blankets on my bed.
The pepper plants are enjoying it, though, and the tomatoes are just about gone. I do have one cut cabbage struggling along to make 'sprouts', and one sprouts plant that's alive, but hardly producing. My pumpkins were a dismal failure due to heat and drought.
I stayed in my office today, near the printer blowing 65C heat out the back.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Last night I used a very lite bed spread over my sheet, used a fan, woke up with my feet hanging out and covers down to my waist, I know as time goes on I will need to put on a lite blanket maybe in a couple months but only if it gets a lot colder.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Today, September 30th was a weatherful day here in Paradise, (central coast O.C.)
The air varied with the humidity of an impending thunder storm to fresh breezes to light winds.
The clouds are magnificent. Every kind of cloud imaginable. Some bands look like Jupiter. Others are high in waves, lower cotton balls, with short strokes of misty white clouds crossing all of them. And of course the God scenes with light shining through a portal and shades of color from purples to orange.
A really weatherful day if you enjoy one of those.
Rain would have made it more better.
Still waiting for that first "smell" of Autumn. That special first, smell.

Re: There's Always The Weather
I'm waiting for that first special cricket to find its way inside my house and start chirping like a fire-siren in he middle of the night.
Past few days the stink bugs have been desperate to get out of the fall cold (they don't like to DIE, yanno) and you can't kill them with RAID. Immune, stinking little black spots that stink like dog droppings when you take a flyswatter to them.
Then there is that squirrel that I see on my back porch. Fall means he might chew his way into the attic like the vermin he is. How would you like to wake up in the middle of the night to hear squirrel making whoopie in your attic while the lights blink merrily on the Christmas Tree because the squirrels chewed the electric lines.
The leaves haven't fallen into my gutters yet but they will fall into my gutters, every last one of them. They don't smell at all.
That only leaves the sound of deer rutting in the woods in late October and then at Thanksgiving, the report of rifle shots as the deer are shot dead by the goofy, drunken hunters with bad breath and toe fungus.

Re: There's Always The Weather
We got our first frost last night. Nephew2 got his first deer, a doe.
She's in the freezer now.
Just so River knows, I have flannel sheets and 4 blankets on my bed, with the fan exhaust of the PC aimed right at me.

Re: There's Always The Weather
I did put a very lite spread on my bed over the cotton sheets, but still manage to keep my feet out because its just to damn hot and yes there was frost on the ground here too. We still have the front door open to keep some fresh air coming in but I did finally close my window.

Re: There's Always The Weather
Two events of wetness are forecast for Southern California.
Tuesday - a lite one and Wednesday- the bigger one.
Maybe a whole inch. The services are guarding burnt hillsides that they should have scattered rye seed on like in the good ole days. The lite rains followed by sun would germinate the grass and prevented muddy run off. And after these light rain events they promise 80F Saturday. A perfect scenario to sprout the unscattered rye grass seed.
My friend on a central California ranch and I agree - if this is Global Warming - "bring it on". We have had a series of cool summers and extended rain seasons. Even a little off season rain. I am ready to invest in NorthWest Passage Transport. This will be hastened as the Canadians dump their giant ice shelves into the Arctic Seas.
Today's "storm a comin' " weather has been great. Fresh breezes and scattered clouds.
If you don't know, Southern Californians are idiots about rain. I love it, the rain and I take walks in a rare storm.
