burdizzo prices and quality

I have checked burdizzo prices and I am not sure what the quality differences would be. Does anyone know about this ?

www.syrvet.com has a 9" model for $40 (model TA880), and www.germedusa.com has the same size for $261 (model VG605-01).

www.ebay.com has them from $15 to $50.

Does anyone know about the quality of any of these products ?

I would never recommend everclear as a method. There is high risk using this. Just think of the possibility of hitting a vesicle and getting that right in the blood stream

A 9" burdizzo would be pretty much a toy.

Maybe if you want to castrate your hamster,

but for a 200 pound animal you should consider

a 19".

Assuming your calf isn't too fat.

the differance is that the one is sold by a surgical instrument place to exacting standards

the other is probably made by a foreign company cheaply

i have owned many burdizzos

the one made in poland i owned i always had problems with not working

i had a stainless steel wimco which never failed to do the job

a 16 inch is perfect for most applications

the baby burdizzo is just a toy unless used in expert hands..a doctor made it work on a man first time out

Thank you to everyone so far for your feedback. It is pretty much what I thought - "you get what you pay for". I think the lower end models from an actual veterinary supply company would work but if you can afford it then go with the surgical model. As far as everclear and alchohol injections, they would work just fine if you know what you are doing and use sterile techniques. I will continue looking into the possibilities...

You can't really tell, as most suppliers don't tell you which instruments they supply. The original makers, Burdizzo, as far as I know, are no longer in production. One of the biggest manufacturer of these 'Burdizzo' style castrators is in Pakistan. But don't let the idea of them being 'foreign' put you off. They have been making fine surgical instruments in Pakistan for many many years. I don't even know if any of these instruments are made in 'western' countries like the US or the UK, Europe, etc. and if they are I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that they're necessarily better.

i would say that the best way to get it doneis to go to a doctor and get it done that way
