It was only two or three years ago, that the top brass at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs were reprimanded for allowing a fundamentalist slanted proselytizing culture to permeate the Academy at all levels. Islamic and Jewish and Catholic students were routinely told they were going to hell unless they became "Christian" Those who complained were routinely retaliated against. If memory serves, they had to bring an outside consultant from Yale Divinity School, who was horrified (and was roundly booed by the staff at the Academy).

I also served 65 - 68 and the military was very careful not to step on anybody's religion. So Mac, most every body that has posted disagrees with you as we all served in the military too. Nobody ever told me to go to a church service or any other kind of service with I was in, ever.

It is also true that the person to blame is the guy at the top, some general will get fired over this before its done and thats a good thing.

River,

all you "vets" as have differing opinions then Mac and the Air Force Academy Christian monument etc. etc. are over three decades apart.

True?

Or do we have a 21st Century Vet on this EA Board?

Oh, and this justified the Concentration Camps? (no link) The My Lai massacre? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_Massacre)

Bataan Death March? (http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/bataandeathmarch.htm)

May I stop now?

Three words... F**K this Idea!

It may not be the situation today. However, This and my other statement regarding military basic training are based on my personal experience.

I didn't site religeon as a specific example as that issue never came up.

How you fail to see the log in your eye but focus on the splinter in mine.

I learned the lessons of being fair and getting along years ago as a teenager both in High School and College when I met people of faith -- Jews, Hindus, Islam, the Amish, a Buddhist and several other religions I can't quite say what they were because I didn't ask.

That when I learned not to add to a prayer "In Jesus's name" because not every person at the table believed in Jesus.

You, sir, are wrong. A half dozen people are telling you that you are wrong. They are citing history and law to inform you that you are wrong. And yet, you stand there like a bulwark against the truth that builds like a wall and insist on being "right"... The facts are against you. Not just opinion, but facts.

Standing up for what is clearly wrong is not brave. It is not courageous. It's just plain wrong. Standing up for a wrong or false opinion is not praiseworthy. It is folly.

It's not an issue of right, wrong, or indifferent. It's what Mac believes to be true. No matter how hard we try to convince him otherwise, we can only lead the horse to water, we cannot make him drink it. Mac You never divulged the branch of service you were in. It may in fact allow some of us to understand where it is you are comming from. Back in the sixties the Marines were religious to a fault there was only one religion within the Marine Corps, Christian I cite the movie Platoon as the source. Admitedly I am not a Marine nor did I serve during the Vietnam War nor do I know how accurate the depiction of the drill instructor was I'll Asume it was pretty close to the truth.

I do however have the utmost respect for Marines, as should we all.
