Provigil or Adderal for low energy and lethargy
Has anyone tried Provigil or Adderal to help with the low energy and sleepiness caused by Low T? I just started taking Adderal and I feel like I have just really "woke up" for the first time in years! I feel so wonderful, awake and ALIVE!!!
Adderal is a prescription only drug used for ADHD and chronic fatigue and Provigil is a narcolepsy drug used by many to stay alert and productive and used by the military for long missions, especially by pilots.
I hope this info can help others suffering from constant lethargy and sleepiness caused from little or no T.
Hugs, Stacy

Stacy,
Thanks for the recommendation. How much Adderal are you using? Was this something that your doctor prescribed to help you sleep better? I might want to try it.

Looked up wikipedia, and Adderal is basically ampetamine.
I do not think that using it is a good idea. But may be I am wrong.

Re: Provigil or Adderal for low energy and lethargy
At first it sounds like I could really use a dose or two of this "provigil" or "adderal." But I do remember reading something a while ago about that stuff, I read it at least three or four years ago, the article was not so much about the drugs but about the hypocrisy in our society... "the laws apply only to the poor, the rich get away with everything... blah blah blah..."
Anyway, the writer noted that poor people use illegal crystal-meth as a stimulant, but rich people could afford doctors who will write them the prescription for whatever they want, i.e. "legal" meth. The writer claimed that more than half the nobel prize winners admitted to using "provigil," which the writer claimed was chemically identical to meth.... I have NOT checked that out, I don't use meth, provigil, or adderal, and could not ever afford any of them, they might be the same stuff, I don't know or care too much either way.
Don't get my wrong here, I am not (here at least) condemning the use of provigil or adderal, and I don't even want to address meth use in this thread, I just would like to point out...
Most employers insist that you must pass a drug test to even get hired, and be able to pass a drug test at any time to keep your job, yet the self-same sanctimonious assholes may themselves be quite under the influence of dangerous mind altering substances - but they are not illegal because they have a prescription. Just because it is legal does not mean that it cannot destroy your mind, and just because a doctor prescribes it does not mean that it is healthy.
At first, this provigil or adderal stuff sounds great, and I could surely use a boost in my mental abilities, on the other hand, "there is no such thing as a free lunch," I am sure there are some side effects, and I just would not want to try the stuff without KNOWING for sure what the long term effects are.
StacyBeaumont, do you have any links to that sort of information? And I stress, NOT any studies sponsored by any pharmaceutical interests, but just real people's experiences after being on the stuff for a while?

Re: Provigil or Adderal for low energy and lethargy
I've been eager to try Provigil recently for that reason, and for the extra mental acuity and memory effects with no speedy-headed side-effects.
It's available pretty cheap via online pharmacies, but Adderal is just about impossible to get w/o prescription. :O

you do have to have a prescription for Adderall but it's not that hard to get. Many people take it for decades without problems but it can be addictive if abused or you have an addictive personality disorder. As a generic, it is very cheap but don't get caught without a script!
If you have a script, drug screens are no problem unless it's specifically banned for your job. If you tell the screener that you are taking it and provide your script and doctor info, they can't legally tell your boss or company that you are taking it due to HIPA regs.
Adderall has been a life changer for me and allows me to fell awake and a live as well as concentrate and focus like a laser!
Provigil is probably a better place to start if you need medication to stay awake and productive. Doctors aren't as stingy about writing scripts for it especially if you have a good reason like low T or something. I believe you can also buy it over the internet with little hassell but would be cheaper to jsut ask your doc for a script. Downside, Provigil is EXPENSIVE! Almost $300 for 30 days where Adderall is dirt cheap as a generic.

Generic Provigil is pretty cheap, only about $140 for 90 200mg pills. I still havn't tried it yet, but will definitely be purchasing some in the coming couple weeks.
And as far as getting Adderal, there's no way any doctor would prescribe me something addictive -- if it's abuseable, I'll get around to abusing it at some point.

Re: Provigil or Adderal for low energy and lethargy
I was castrated in late april and have opted to now not to take HRT and have felt the normal side effects of no T and to this point I have delt with them.
I have liked what I have read about provigil and adrenal so I decided to check into it. I had a appointment with a endocrinologist and mentioned provigil and adrenal and she said that I should go see a shrink as those are 2 drugs that are not really in her line. She gave me a referral to a shrink but at this point have not decided as to whether or not to proceed. I am not sure if I want to open that can of worms.

Provigil/Modafinil is supposedly generally consider safe and pretty much free of dangers -- that's one of its nice selling points.

You should start with your GP for Provigil. It is prescribed for shift-workers , narcoleptics etc so shouldn't be to difficult for someone with excessive tiredness from a hormone imbalance to get. I'd worry about an endo that didn't know anything about Provigil and tried to pass you on to a shrink...
