WYFY connection

Post by seriously curious (imported) »

Can anyone here tell me of a way to either add a WYFY antenna to boost incomming signals I'm currently tapped into a public network but I have connectivity issues were as the signal strength is not very strong. Some days are worse than others on the bad days I can't seem to stay connected at all.

I went to Best Buy to talk to one of their Geeks and they pointed me to some sort of router that they thought would work the price of this piece of equipment was $100.00. Way more than I want to spend.

There must be some type of antenna that could be connected via a USB port. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing, if so where can it be purchased, ordered or other wise I'd perfer not to spend a lot of money if it's possilbe.

Thanks

Have you ever heard of Cantenna?

It is external directional antenna for Wi-Fi. But building it requires some soldering skills.

Here is a website with some instructions for building a Cantenna:

http://www.turnpoint.net/wireless/cantennahowto.html

This website sells commercially built ones for about $50, or parts for about $20. Also has some info on them:

http://www.cantenna.com

Also take a look at these two:

I hate wifi.

I've never had luck with it.

I have many friends who swear by it; they love their Wifi... but every single one of them, periodically, will complain how their system wasn't working the ngiht before, or how their laptop won't connect, etc etc etc.

I HATE wifi problems; when I tried it two years ago it was nothing but a headache.

So, I ditched it completely. I now run a phone (data) line from my router to my computer, laptop, and PS3, and just deal with having wires laying around (tucked under carpets etc. so they don't look too bad).

My friend tease me all the time, but I just sit with a smile and wait for them to talk about the last time they had connection issues or any sort of hiccup with their wifi system and then it's my turn to laugh; go ahead, ask me the last time any of my equipment had any difficulty whatsoever in receiving a signal; how about NEVER :).

TTHPHTHTHPTH on wifi !!
