Depo Provera

Post by cbeard (imported) »

Hi,

I have been searching around this site for some time but cannot quite find the answers to my questions. I recently bought a syringe with a 150mg of Depo Provera. I have never taken any chemical castration drug before and have a few questions before I do.

How long after the shot does the drug start working? Is it an almost immediate reduction in testosterone or does it take time?

What can I expect as far as short term and long term side effects from the drug?

How significant is the risk of blood clots with the drug? Is this a risk that can be reduced and if so how?

Are there any other serious risks besides blood clots that I should be aware of?

Is there a difference between injecting in the waistline or the arm? I saw on the package that either could be done.

How long does the shot last when being used for this purpose?

Thank you so much to anyone who can help. Chemical Castration is something I have wanted to experience for awhile, but I want to make sure I have all the necessary information before I make the jump and perform the injection. Hopefully this experience will help me make an informed decision as to whether or not surgical castration is something I wish to pursue in the future.

:)

Here are some of my observations:

It took me about a month. My first four injections were weekly, 150ml each. It is a gradual change, but I really noticed it after 3-4 weeks.

There are plenty of posts here on this topic. Generally fatigue, hot/cold flashes, and mood changes are the worst. This generally subsides. In my case took about one year to adjust. This is one reason most here recommend a year-long chem trial before considering surgery.

I am not aware of any serious issues. Something to talk with your MD about.

Liver function. My MD has me take quarterly liver-function tests.

I always used the waistline. That is a much bigger muscle so the bump from injection is less apparent. Just make sure to inject slowly and check for blood first. Again, there are plenty of posts about this.

After the initial weekly shots, I did one 150ml shot a month. This seems very typical, but your "milage" may vary.

Good luck. The hardest part is getting up the courage for the first shot 🙄

Hi, I can agree with all that Donny Mac has said. I am now down to monthly injection (been on DP since Dec.2009) The only thing I would stress more, is the lack of energy ....... I think this is slowly getting better, but slowly.

I'm going to the doctors on Tuesday to see about getting a shot from him. I've been researching it for a while.
