The problem is that whoever is doing this has a botnet at his disposal. I showed up a little ways into the initial wave of attacks and there were in excess of 600 "people" in the Lobby!

I do know some others running their own servers -- and some of them even wrote their own IRCd. They may have an answer.

We could always set up an alternate system under another server, and one where membership is restricted to actual EA members with approval before being permitted to post. The present Chat Room may be terminally dead.

The chat room will try out registered of users.

You will need to get a password from me.

The link to the site in the message board is no longer working.

You will need to use your own chat room software. Like mIRC.com.

You will have to do some set up with the software to handle the nickname and password for your account.

IMPORTANT

You need to send an e-mail to me at archivechat@yahoo.com.

In the message area you MUST put in your nickname you used in the chat room before.

If I do not see a nick name in the subject line I will not read!

No new user names will be admitted.

If I do not see a nick name that I remember, it will not be allowed in.

You can give the last day you think you were in chat. That will help with validations of the nick name. This can help me check logs.

Sorry for the restrictions. Once you are registered all should be like in the past.

If the Java chat is going to die anyhow, why not use an existing IRC network as the temporary fix? Undernet has various ways of controlling these issues, for example. I think one of the great things about the chat is that people can just pop in and see what it's about without having to sign up first. If we abandon that model, I fully believe the chat will wither up and die. It will take longer, but in the end it will be equivalent to pulling the plug. Thus, for the proposed fix (sending passwords out and verifying accounts), I say thanks for the thought, but I'll decline the invitation.

Losing the Java chat alone will be bad enough. I'd say that this move alone will cost 2/3 of the user base who are either not proficient enough or not interested enough to set up a dedicated IRC client, or even to install Trillian. But if we have to abandon the Java model, we might as well take advantage of the strengths of a large, existing network.

This is only a work around till the hacker is gone. Do not think he will stay too long if we do not have the money to pay is demands.

I politely told him to "fuck off."

He replied and said "fuck off" as well.

How creative.

One of the potential solutions I'm working on is going with a pure Java/Flash chatroom, and have it linked in with the vBulletin database for user accounts. So you wouldn't need to register again, just use your existing message board account to get into the chatroom.

I'm sadden to hear that a brain dead dim-wit is trying to spoil the enjoyment of others in the eunuch chatroom, I say to all chatroom users Don't give up on the people doing their best for us all, we may loose the battle, but we win the war, together as a team, so show your support for the eunuch team working hard, and if you have the skills to help them out why not send them a discreet e-mail with suggestions.

This is our chance to all stand together & work as a team.

Good luck to you all, and look forward to chatting to you great people again.

Pervy 🙏
