Justin Bieber: A Boy Forever
The motivations in this story are true. There is an economic reward for prolonging the later results of puberty in some selected young male performers. And while the drastic and permanent action of castration is not performed anymore, I would not be surprised to learn of a little secret that measures are taken to increase the shelf life of some of these young performers. Justin is 16 and his voice is just beginning to break. With children of both sexes entering puberty earlier over the past few decades, most boys experience voice change by 14 or 15 at the latest. For Justin, this delay could be a lucky coincidence. Look at the other example of the original three Tony award winning American cast members who played the lead in Billy Elliot. All three were able to postpone retirement due to their voice changing until they were well past 16. Given the rigorous work to select and train these highly talented boys, there is a large incentive to maximize their performance life. One has to wonder
A simple spray of Synarel up their nose a couple of times a day would do the trick of halting puberty. This could probably be done until the their 16th birthday with no permanent effects to the boy.
Over the years we have seen the opposite happen, suggesting external influence of the timing of puberty in celebrities. On more than one occasion, we have seen a boy performer staring in a regular series running on network TV end the season as a pre-adolescent. Magically three or four months later at the start fall season, the young man returns with his deep voice, well past the transition stage with no signs of that awkward cracking. It just seams unlikely that the youth was able to pass through that transition in just a few months, precisely timed for the few months he would not appear to the public.
While we have no hard evidence to suggest such manipulation is taking place, the perfect timing again makes one wonder if the magic of chemistry was somehow applied for financial motives .

Personally, I was beginning to wonder if Freddie Highmore (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Spiderwick Chronicles, August Rush) was on some of puberty delaying drug. In some publicity photos of him when he was a teen, which surprised me to learn how old he was, he was beginning to appear somewhat macroskeletal. (Long arms and legs, very thin). At almost 17, he was still looking and sounding like a little boy. It makes you wonder...

Re: Justin Bieber: A Boy Forever
I had my suspicions already there wondering how much lucky coincidence there is that this or that boy performer has his puberty started so late. Justin Bieber among them. Other suspicious case is with Ben Crawley. He's voice started to change obviously at 14. It is possible to hear on recordings. While maintaining high notes, the voice characteristics actually change. He was able to sing high notes until 16 if I am right. What makes his case particularily suspicious is that he grew very tall and he has unproportionally long arms.
It could be normal as I have seen boys in real life change their voices really slow and real late. Only what is the probability that boy performers tend to have delayed puberty.
Of course, on the other hand, if they had precocious puberties they never became so popular. There are perhaps many boy performers who's career was broken by precocious puberty and we don't know much about them.
But thats true, modern medicine makes wonders.

Re: Justin Bieber: A Boy Forever
The idea that some boy singers and actors could be receiving some help to prolong their careers is quite fascinating, and in a way, does make sense. But still, I don't think it is a common happening, if it happens at all.
Looking back into history, into a time when puberty-delaying drugs were not available, many cases of boy singers pop up who "lasted longer" than the average boy of their time. This leads me to think that this might be another manifestation of the mind having a powerful control over the body. It truly seems that a boy who absolutely loves his soprano singing career can indeed delay puberty somewhat, just by wishing it!
Of course, there are also other powerful factors at play. One is that boys who sing, and get good voice training, can sometimes keep singing in the soprano range in a surprisingly convincing way even while their voice is developing all the low range that comes with puberty. They use falsetto voice (making only a part of the vocal folds vibrate), but with the dimensions and shapes of the rest of their bodies still being quite boyish, they can produce a sound more like that of a true treble than that of an adult falsettist/sopranist. There are enough examples, even on youtube, of boys who speak in tenor or baritone range and then sing in a treble voice so clean that one is tempted to think it's dubbed. But I have seen (and heard) boys do this for real, so I know that not all such recordings are dubbed (but some might be, of course).
And certainly there is the "selection phenomenon": One tends to remember the few who could sing soprano until 16, and disregard the many whose voices broke for good at age 13. A lot of great voices made just one recording before fading away, demolished by that biologic curse built into every male at birth, in the form of a "best before" date.

I scared the hell out of G3 tonight with a comment about this.
He came up behind me, while I was talking to his friend's parents, who were bemoaning the fact that their son is hitting puberty and becoming confrontational, etc. "It was fine before the testosterone started pumping," the dad said. (They've never had a boy in puberty before, this is their first.)
I told him, knowing that G3 was back there eavesdropping, "Well, sir, you know you can get stuff on the Internet without a prescription, factor it down for weight, and sneak it into his food. It's like what they give sex offenders to kill off their hormones. It's just that G3 doesn't know he's been eating it for six months now."
We adults laughed.
The look on G3's face was priceless.
I'm not sure if he believed me or not when I told him I was joking...

Just think how panicked he would have been if you had mentioned that the only serious side effect was weight gain.
You'd never be able to convince him that having a functioning kidney was why he was finally putting on some weight (and why he seems to be going through puberty on the normal schedule instead of probably being delayed by illness).

Paolo,
...and EVERYBODY else here, listen up!
DAMN! ...people...
You GOTTA watch what you say around kids who might go to public school and relate these sorts of things to a school counselor.
You sure as hell DO NOT want a welfare investigation and PROBLEMS...
What has to be taught to kids now-a-days in public school to enable them to protect themselves from strangers CAN make them suspicious of family.
Furthermore, any such tale reaching a public school counselor MUST be reported and the counselor is protected by law from liability repercussions caused by ANY report that turns out to be false...
...just a word to the wise for everyone...
...this is nothing to joke about, especially when they come with a search warrant for your computer...
CAPISH!?

Then Lk's mom is in deep shit then. You should have been there the night she threatened to castrate him in front of the entire 8th grade football team.
