Hello to everyone,
This is my first post to the EA and would like to introduce myself. I am 45yo and pre-op MTF seeking surgical castration. I have been on anti-andgogens and estrogens for over a year. Surgical castration as a first step to SRS and to reduce anti-androgens medications seems to be a logical starting place for me. I enjoy reading the messages here and find myself comming back again and again, so this is kind of a de-lurking message. I've also been in contact with Dr. Spector in Philly but just cannot afford his services at this time. The information here has been helpful to me and I hope to see many more posts. This is an excelent site for those interested or seeking castration. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Welcome. The Eunuch Archives has several members who are MTF that have been castrated, either by Dr. Spector or others, or are awaiting castration, and some of whom use chemical castration. I hope we can be of help and support.

Well let me give you a little history on my use of medications. For about 10 months I was taking 200mg Spironolactone, 2mg Estradiol oral and 2 bi-weekly Estradem patches. This level did give me the desired results I wanted but this was unsupervised by my doctor. So back in December 01 I had to go for some examinations where I could not be on any meds for several days prior to that. I decide being unsupervised was just not worth the risks and since my doctor could not give the right blood tests, he gave me referrals to some doctors that participate in the HBSOC [Harry Bengamin Standards Of Care]. I ageed with my doctor to stay off the meds until I got into the HBSOC program, and that was for 4 months. That has been tough [with the return of the aggression, high labido etc.] but I stuck it out so that my new doctor could get acurate results on the blood tests. This new doctor did blood tests and started me on 4mg Estradiol and no anti-androgens yet. It's been over 2 months now and it seems to be slowly reducing my T-levels. I go back to him in a couple of weeks and will see if he adds any more meds. If you are interested I will try to get some numbers from the blood tests.

Hi Chris,
I would like to add to the welcome here, and hopefully I have good news for you.
You indicate that cost is presently a hurdle for you. Since you are transsexual, you have more options than the non-transgendered persons here for your castration. I would look over my surgeon's list page at:
http://www.geocities.com/sherrylanina/C ... ndWho.html
and in particular I would contact Dr. Barham in Portland OR. He requires six months of HRT (but even if your previous unsupervised HRT doesn't count toward this, you are still on your way and only four more months to go) a therapist letter (perhaps the same therapist who wrote your HRT letter if he/she is PHD), and a negative HIV test. I think you can meet Dr. Barham's qualifications, and then he will charge you only $750, which is less than half of Dr. Kimmel's price. You might also look into Dr. Brownstein in San Francisco, who is also listed on my page of surgeons.
Good luck, and I hope you soon obtain castration. Once that is done, you require less if any androgen blockers, less hormones, and probably less frequent blood tests.
