Just a quick observation on the cookies.

I was going to post this earlier, but keept getting inturpted. 🙄 I did perform some tests earlier to mimic what you were talking about auslander. I know my understanding with cookies is fairly non-existent but I have enough knowledge to understand what is going on.

I examined the cookie while I was logged into the board and it contained 3 sections.

They were "Last Visit", "User ID" & "Password". (BTW the password & User ID are not in plain text, they are things the message board assigns so it knows who you are.)

When you click the "Log out" button "User ID" & "Password" sections are removed from the cookie, but the "Last Visit" portion stays.

I doubt that someone would be able to do that easily, it would be easier for them to attempt to guess your Password, than guess your session ID.

it would drop your log in going from one board to another

Well I think this problem is more of cookies getting corrupt, or possibly session IDs changing. I occasionally have a problem where I'm online and lodged in, then click on a screen and no longer logged in. It happens occasionally, and I just have to relog in.

I hope this helps explain what goes on when you log in and out. 😲 Hopefully it didn't go over your head.

Auslander,

I am not sure that the problem lies necessarily with the Archive. It happened to me this evening and following an undexpected thought (I don't often get them) I checked the history on the 'back' button. Sure enough it had disappeared.

This happens when one has been browsing for a period and there may be a setting which controls it, but I have never found it.

Can't say that I am sufficiently enamoured of Micro-slop and its products to want to waste my time. I think the answer is for me to ensure that I do not browse any other sites before browsing the archive.

LOL

Well, the idea of the message board somehow "unjoining" was a wild-assed guess on my part. I'm totally unfamiliar with the admin or code side of vBulletin and only see the interface we all do. I had gotten one or two weird emails from EA back at the beginning of June.

That problem consisted of an empty email accompanied by an attachment of 78K which was empty (i.e., 0 byte file length). This apparently occurred around the same time Bboy had to reset the passwords.

So, I was thinking in reference to your experience, a bug maybe? Apparently not.

Have you tried browsing with multiple windows?

As for Micro$oft, there is nothing on my computer from them except for IE 4.5, and I use that only when absolutely necessary.

Hope you resolve the problem.

Now that's a great avatar! 😄

I didn't examine the cookies on my computer since Netscape retains them in a library rather than as individual files. It's not difficult to index into the library (Netscape provides a preferences tool for doing this) but I always seem to mess things up whenever I go peeking around in there. I guess I just wasn't curious to see what was being recorded there.

As I posted earlier, I've seen

and the way it's done here on the message boards is not what I'm used to encountering.

My questions and concerns have been answered. Bboy did an excellent job of explaining the login/logout process and identity tracking in his post. (Thanks again, Bboy.)

As for being over my head? No way, not until you start talking about "AND," "OR," and "NAND" gates! :)

You can thank Talula for creating my updated avatar. Looks a lot better than my hand drawn one I had done. I still need to work on it a little to suit me better. I am thinking of adding some Captive Bead Rings to show my interest in Body Piercing, and a Hypodermic Needle instead of an arrow showing my interest in Play Piercing. :tongueout

I haven't used Netscape for a long time mainly as my work doesn't use it, and I need to be proficient with IE so I can support it. :(

Hmm think I need to study up again on "AND", "OR", and "NAND" gates. It has been a long time since I have worked with them.

Since that last update there is that "vBulletin" logo showing up in the upper left corner. (You see it too, do you?)

So, I don't want to, well something like: annoy, but isn't it a little, hm well, annoying?

You see, a company would call for "corporate identity" now and every internet magazine would refer to the effects of recognition and so on, so, I mean, you see the point?

No?

*g..., ok:

If there's a logo in any corner of this page, why isn't it the Eunuch Archive's?

And b-some-more-w:

I know this means an upscream all over the board once again BUT: By the same line of reasoning:

I have already seen TOO many of those vBulletin Boards in exactly the same colors and schemes(And that can have strange side effects, like: Hey, what are YOU doing THERE? ...Oh, what, that's a programmer's board? ...No nothing, just a fly on my nose...) and I would LOVE to recognize THIS one at first glance!

I think it deserves it.

And anyway, what's wrong with upscreams? :D

So, I*'m in favour of ANY design change, in colors, not in function namely, because this is a special board and it deserves an appearance that, if not fits it's content (that would be TOO much *g (or too less... *S)), at least fits it's peculiarity.

Anybody else please?

It doesn't sound like any of the problems you've mentioned in your recent posts are related to vBulletin, which seems to be a rock-steady software package; I'd look at the browser first. Your symptoms almost make it sound like there's something a little unstable in your OS.

I myself have not noticed these problems either on EA's vBulletin software or on any other (identically-colored and identical appearing) vBulletin sites. Sorry I can't be more helpful at this point.
