When the members of Westboro Baptist Church arrived in San Francisco (AKA Gomorrah) for a bout of picketing with their infamous God Hates Fags signs, they were met by a flock of counter-demonstrators carrying signs such as:
GOD
LOVES
MAC & CHEESE
and
GOD
HATES
BROCCOLI
Absurdity meet theatre of the absurd!
Westboro Baptist

Re: Westboro Baptist
My sign would have read
God
Hates
Cooked Spinach
and I think that is one of the best and more clever counter protests I have heard about.

Re: Westboro Baptist
They protested across the street from Henry M. Gunn High School which I went to when I was a teenager. They were chanting "You will be under the train next" in reference to the five suicides in the last year of students from Gunn high school.
If ever there was a perfect argument for same sex marriage it must be Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church

Re: Westboro Baptist
I particularly like the sign "God hates shrimp" that I remember from someplace. I took the time to look it up and here it is (sorry in advance if I'm getting the linking policy here wrong):
http://phrixuscoyote.wordpress.com/2008 ... eekrabben/
A paraphrasing for those who can't read German:
From 3 Moses 11:9-12 comes the commandment basically not to eat anything from the sea that doesn't have scales and fins. This is why shrimp and calamari and Mark Phelps aren't kosher. The blog poster replies:
"Yes, my beloved fellow Christians, don't fulminate against gay sex and then just casually eat seafood pizza. And follow all of the other commandments of the Old Testament, and propagate them. Do you enjoy those tasty Australian ostrich steaks? So modern and so tasty, but anathema! Forbidden! Loathesome! Unclean! (3 Moses 11:16) So bring every single one of God's commandments to the heathens!
When people toss out the whole Old Testament anti-gay thing, I ask them if they keep kosher, and this usually wins the argument. Then I toss in Jesus's (not THAT Jesus's) attitudes toward eunuchs and the like, and then they desperately want to change the subject.

Re: Westboro Baptist
My theory is that Westboro Baptist Church is actually pro gay, and this is all just an elaborate performance to make the anti gay forces look bad... Not that they need any help, but I'm just saying....
