Mother has son castrated

Post by kgmac (imported) »

From TV story on Global Sunday

The mother of a 26 year old man with the mental age of 4 had

him castrated on the recommendation of his doctors.

Now the public guardian of B.C. is suing her, the doctors and

the hospital on his behalf because he will no longer be able to

have children.

Can you think of what that poor little boy was thinking, the mental age of 4 in an adult body with hormones raging. I think the mother and doctors did the boy a favor after all its hard for a 4 yr old boy to understand sex, fatherhood and all that goes with it. The guardian in this case should be investigated as to what there intensions were for this child. Sex Machine? I think the gardians in this case should be replaced and never be able to control the life of another. 😠 😠 😠

Many Years ago, they used to keep the mentally retarded children at home rather than put them into homes. I can remember several situations where the children, now grown to adults, would (a) badly beat up their parents, (b) attack the girls next store, (c) grow very aggresive and violent after the parents died and essentially be nearly imposible to institutionalize.

A person with a 26 year old body and the mind of a 4 year old is very dangerous and should be handled by professional people. This person should not stay at home but should be in a setting where profesional care is given to them.

Here's an article from July with further information.

The last paragraph really made me think:

As for her son, he doesn't understand what all the fuss has been about. He's just anxious to leave Vancouver, to get to his new home in New Brunswick and back to the things that make him happy – taking out his neighbour's garbage, stuffing envelopes at the post office and taking long walks with his dog.

From the story:

At the time, Sandra was a single mother struggling to look after her son and his sisters. As he got older, he started to become sexually aroused when their friends came over. She knew something might have to be done. But a visit from her granddaughter convinced her.

"She was a toddler, about a year old," she says. "He loves her, loves her to death and would tickle her gently, at least I hope it would be gently – we'd watch him. One day we found out he was rubbing himself. He was tickling her and she was moving around in his lap and he enjoyed it and she enjoyed it but he was using her."

After consulting friends, relatives, her family doctor and a specialist, Sandra consented to her son having a bilateral orchidectomy, a form of castration.

[end quote]

This could only happen if we reduce the mentally retarded to the status of animal, whose bodies we may modify and control for our convenience.

That's it? That's justification for taking away the sexual drive from another human being?!

...Mike, I don't want to be too big-brotherish here but people with mental disabilities are cared for by their caretakers, if not institutionalized.

It is a very, very difficult thing to care for mentally handicapped people in an institution, let alone in the home.

I am loathe to sit in judgment on ALL people in this situation. Just ask yourself this. If this young man had a child, or rather got somebody pregnant, who would care for the child and what chance would it have to be normal?

I am NOT saying that it is right.

I AM asking who are we to judge this situation?
