Pressing the Connect button on the Receiver for the mouse and pressing the button on the bottom of the mouse that is labeled connect may help

I get the same problem. I suspect the fault lies in Windows or perhaps even the BIOS.

I have three mouses. One Microsoft with a USB connection, one Labtech wireless and one oldish Naviga with the round green plug that connects to the special mouse port on the pc.

They all work for a while and then I get that seize up effect. With the Naviga mouse the cursor wanders around by itself sometimes, hand off.

If I change mouses the replacement will work for a few days before it too starts playing up. I have yet to find anyone who knows what the fault is.

Of course, it never happened in the old days when mouses had balls.

As Dave suggested, the simplest solution is a new battery; when my mouse starts sticking, I generally have to change batteries, but I often leave it until the battery is completely worn out. If the mouse fails to move after a few minutes of use, it's probably an old battery. If the mouse fails to move from start up, it could be a depleted battery or the connection to the computer to the transponder that picks up the mouse signals may be faulty (like pulled out from the back of the computer). Those are the simplest fixes and most common. My Dad has about three spare wireless mouses; I found out he was buying new ones whenever the batteries got low cause he thought the mouse had died and needed replacing. I went into the house one day and found all of these mouses by my Dad's computer and found out he was buying a new one every couple of months cause he didn't know you had to change batteries.

I put new batteries in his old one and now he thinks I'm a genius. LOL.

I once had both a wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard. I got rid of them and went back to a "conventional" wired mouse and keyboard because they ate up too many batteries. My experience with the wireless mouse and keyboard was the tech and idea behind them was great on paper, but in real life experience it wasn't so great.
