Re: New Neighbor Boy by Anon
I haven't submitted anything for a long time. BUT, I CAN SEE WHY WE SOMETIMES POST AS --- ANON.
This and "Playing Lukas Sorenson" are both disturbing.
"A Single Man" just came out in theaters, (Spell checker flagged the proper spelling of Theatre and I acquiest)(acquiest also flagged, Paolo, you have me dragging out my "Funky Wagnalls")(Oh, help me, this is the first time I got that Funk & Wagnalls Joke on "Laugh In" {it's Spanish}) While waiting for the release, I watched "Chris and Don a Love Story". A brief clip shows Don's brother Wes, Electro shock therapy 1950 style (probably for being gay) and a brief picture 40 years later of the tragic results.
My sister had a pre frontal lobotomy in 2008
Science fiction has always bothered me, mostly for the reality that exists.
P.S. "The Glass Castle" is also an interesting read on a child's view of homelessness.

Re: New Neighbor Boy by Anon
I think it would be a suitable addendum to this thread to ask 'What is child abuse?'
I would like to start by referencing A-1:
>
By our societal standards, I could not help but to agree that it is abnormal. But at the same time, I think it is possible for such a person to grow up to be a 'normal balanced individual'.
Take for example, we have a boy who has been sexually abused by an uncle. The uncle tells said boy to 'never tell anyone our secret'. The boy is certainly going to have some problems if he is a part of a society that frowns upon such things. But is it possible to have a similar situation in a society where such things are normal and potentially public and not have any problems?
I would point out that Greek pederasty was popular for a time. Socrates and Plato represent some views on the matter, but I would expect that if it were such a popular and open practice (among Aristocrats) that it would be not be so troublesome to society considering how much of it was among mythology as well as real life.
So, I would tend to argue that this 'weird treatment' to be potentially beneficial. I would note that Canyon seems to have a certain confidence and scholastic aptitude that differs from much of what we hear happens in the public school system. He spent an entire year thinking about his castration, and was very happy with it afterwards.
Is an enema a weird way of relief? To general society it is. But some societies in the past have used their hands (in the desert there are no leaves), some use water instead of paper, some don't have flush toilets, what is wrong with this method?
To the complains of sexualizing the boys, Western society is very close minded about sex, and in fact doesn't want to admit that children are sexual beings. We don't see (yet?) any adults engaging the boys, but only among the boys themselves.
Was Canyon's jacking off of Scott consensual? I would argue it was, as the narrator said "OK, I dont know WHY Scott let him do it."
Spanking to various degrees has also been used as a punishment probably throughout history, it is also true that it is not necessarily a popular thing in Western society now.
I think I would like to close by saying that you have a network of people who view things differently than the rest of society. In a way, they could be a shadow society within society. It doesn't make them wrong just because it would be considered wrong in the wider context of society.

As far as the Author goes, I do not think that this critique will stop him/her from finishing this story. If it DOES, I will finish it for you.
How do I know how it ends? Well, maybe I could write a couple of endings.
In one, the abuser Mr. Poore gets busted and he and his little "clique" goes to prison and becomes the BITCHES for the inmate population.
In the other, they continue the abuse, maybe pull a Jeffrey Dahlmer or John Wayne Gacy to make an example to keep their victims shut up, or, maybe they kill ALL of their victims and then they die of old age and the abuse is visited upon another generation of victims as the victims of this story who are lucky enough to survive to adulthood become the abusers to the next generation.
Or, perhaps, the "GHOST STORY" ending in which the victims are silenced by death and they come back to haunt and to visit vengance upon some living relatives of the abusers.
Whatever the ending to the story, the point is that it IS well-written, and if you do not take the chance to learn more about the psychological dynamics of abusers and their victims, you have cheated yourselves of an EXCELLENT MIND-EXPANDING EXPERIENCE that does not require the use of anything harmful.
So we shall wait with "baited breath" awaiting the installments up to and icluding the conclusion of this story and hopefully, we shall all learn from it what a dysfunctional relationship entails.
In a perfect world there would be NO dysfunctional relationships. In a REAL WORLD, however, EVERY relationship is dysfunctional to some degree. The point at which society interferes gets a lower and lower threshold as time goes by and injustices of the past are recognized and characterized for what they were. ABUSIVE.
Remember, it is NEVER, the victim OR the perpetraitor who makes this judgment that a dysfunctional situation must stop without some kind of outside intervention.

A-1, you raise some good points, as do all the other who have theorized on the outcomes of "such a boy's" life.
I WAS just teasing, too. Don't get your panties in a bunch!

I do have to say, if this turns into a Ghost Story, I will have to scream!
I don't think I see a Jeffrey Dahmer or JW Gacy twist, coming though. That would be quite disappointing.

That is why it was the LAST OPTION I mentioned. Nobody likes to see people die. At least nobody in their right mind, as far as I am concerned...
P.S., I don't wear ANY panites.

In regards to death. "That's just the way the road goes." We are all going to die!
The Myth that "Doctors save lives" is just that, a myth! They can't save there own lives! The most they can try to do is ease the pain or prolong the agony.
Watched "Awakenings" with Robing williams yesterday! We cathaterize people in institutions and tranquilize them out of there minds "For there own good".
"GOD IS GREAT, Beer is good and people are crazy" I just believe the "People are crazy" part.

Well, to me, its a fictional story and I find it absolutely great craic! The author has quite an imagination, the inventive rascal, and I look forward every day to see the latest turn.
There are all sorts of elements that are illegal, even in Nederland, but no lads been hurt and its a great read on a cold winter's day in the EU.
Thanks, mate!
