More rants.

Post by madscientist (imported) »

Well, now they've done it. Doctors are now saying that women should have hysterectomies to prevent breast cancer. And men should have orchiectomies to prevent.... Oh, that's right. They don't reccomend orchiectomies to prevent anything. Medicine is sure sexist.

I understand that doctors seem to approve of male-to-female TG's more than they approve of female-to-male TG's. Anyone have any experience in these matters?

If you are referring to the story I think you are, it was about a certain class of women, not all women, at elevated risk of ovarian and breast cancer due to a particular gene. For those women, and those women only, a removal of the ovaries (not a hysterectomy) was suggested as a prophylactic measure.

Having said that, I would agree with your rant about finding a doctor willing to do an orchiectomy to prevent prostate problems. But isn't that one of the biggest ongoing concerns expressed here in the archives? How to find a safe and legal castration?

I agree with you completely, Mad.

In the mid 80's my wife complained that her menstrual flow was excessive, and the doctor's solution was to give her a full hysterectomy and ovary removal, "to prevent possible problems in the future," he said.

Well, the joke was on him because in 1994 she got breast cancer anyway. She had been on HRT after her first surgery, but of course that was taken away from her after the breast cancer.

In 1995 I began trying to find a "legitimate" doctor to castrate me, and every single one I approached was absolutely horrified with the idea. I confronted several with my wife's story, and the few that responded at all said simply "That was different," and would not explain further.

It certainly seemed sexist to me.

Thanks again, Dr. Spector!

I wonder if a guy could tell a doctor that testicular cancer that spreads rapidly runs in his family & he is so nervous that he has even contemplated suicide. Maybe the mention of suicide would be concidered an emergency in the eyes of some doctor.

most likely someone trying this would get a psychiatriac referral if not an emergency detention in a psychaitric hospital.

genetic testing would reveal all of it to be a lie.

in short, don't try it because it won't work.
