actually it is control + shift + print screen all at the same time...this captures the whole monitor screen at one time then go into your favorite photo program then create a new doc (photoshop will automatically create to the size in memory) then paste...note you might want to then use crop to reduce the size down to just the part you want.
Just the Print Screen key by itself will do that in Windows. No need to hold down ctrl+shift. It isn't going to hurt if you do hold down those keys (it will still work), but you don't HAVE to. Try it without holding down ctrl+shift, you'll see it still works.
You can also hold down ALT and press PrintScreen to capture just the current Window (instead of the whole screen).
Another really interesting thing you can do with the PrintScreen key is toggle between "Standard" and "High Contrast" mode (which is good for those with poor eyesight -- but will drive most other people nuts). To do this, hold down ALT and SHIFT then press PRINTSCREEN. Do that again to turn it off.
Here are two websites with basic info on this subject:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Print_screen
http://eduscapes.com/tap/topic7.htm
Also, These two websites contain a list of these and other "keyboard shortcuts". Totally overkill for this particular thread... But some very useful information:
http://www.pctoday.com/Editorial/articl ... .asp&guid=
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_k ... _shortcuts
The second one (Wikipedia) covers Windows, Mac, and Linux.
(it is a huge list of all -- or at least most -- known keyboard shortcuts).
