Yeah, I think this sort of injury is pretty common. Like mentioned by others, it even has a name "Mexican vasectomy". I really don't understand why anyone would put a gun in the front of their waistband, if I was really going to do something like that I think I'd naturally put it in the back. It just seems natural to be aware that there is some danger in having a gun and your genitals in such close proximity to one another.

Maybe there's something erotic about pushing the barrel down towards your penis. Getting back to the original story, there was no mention of physicians trying to reattach any part of the penis. I would guess that some part of the penis remained, unless the shot somehow the bullet entered the base and blew out through the tip. Does anyone know what a bullet does to soft tissue?
