Why Would You Trust Microsoft?
Today takes the cake in Microsoft running roughshod over the U.S. Patent Office as it pertains to software. If you thought that MS's corruption of the International Standards Organization wasn't bad enough, here's today's offense: http://www.groklaw.net/article.php?stor ... 1094923390
And if you aren't aware of how Microsoft's corporate bullying has been affecting tech in general, just cruise over to Groklaw's home page at http://www.groklaw.net and click on the links to ODF/OOXML and OOXML Appeals.
I haven't used Microsoft's products in a decade and can't see why anyone would use an operating system that reports back to its corporate mothership on what music and video files you play.
Am I just an alarmist, or am I level-headed?

Re: Why Would You Trust Microsoft?
Just like everything else, its our fault, its we the people that decide if this is the way to go or not and until something better comes along it will continue.
Yes Apple is fine, if you don't want to ever upgrade your machine, and don't mind paying a lot more.
I just put a open system on my server with all free software, the price is right but there is a learning curve and one that most people just wont do, because people want it now, plug and play.
Corporations use it because its a standard, they don't like it but they are almost forced to use Microshaft, when open systems finally catch up and there close you will see companies start moving that direction then you will see change, not before.

Re: Why Would You Trust Microsoft?
Macs are upgradable. I know, I've done it a number of times. Plus, they come with most everything you need right out of the box to accomplish some amazing things, so upgrading is not as needed as with a PC. One doesn't need to add functions to a Mac like with a PC.
Macs are actually less expensive to operate over the long haul, this has been tested for Fortune 500 companies. Fewer problems and no BSOD. Some Windows users experience this several times a day. Figure the downtime into the cost of ownership.
I only use windows XP because that is what my employer has sitting on everyone's desk. My Brother the MS Tech at a University says it stands for: Xtra Problems.
Mac OS X Server is powerful and easy to set up. Never once crashed on me. The windows server at work crashes from time to time and takes 45 minutes to shut down, and about 55 minutes to restart. Factor that downtime into the cost of ownership, the whole office doing nothing while waiting.
If you like your MS OS and the box it resides in, great, but it you find the BSOD, Viruses and other problems too much, look at an iMac. You may just find you are much happier with it. I know I am much happier with my Macs.

Gee, Microsoft has never run roughshod over me...now the US Government that's another story! Perhaps it will do Uncle Sam some good to be fucked once and awhile instead of doing the fucking.

Re: Why Would You Trust Microsoft?
Let's see, why would I Trust A Corporation? Be it Microsoft or Microhard or Anycorp
Hummmm. Still thinking and I can't think of any reason.
As a starting point: Trust no one, no corporation, no government.
Over time you may decide to engage in a little trust, or a lot of trust.
That's what folks did with Bernie Madoff.
And look at what their trust got them.............ripped off that's what.
Do not forget well proven words,
Let the buyer beware
A fool and his (or her) money are soon parted
......and the list of little ditties like this go on and on and on.
And as eluded to by others in this thread, let your money do the talking,
buy what works
buy what you believe in
don't give your money to people or companies that you don't believe in or trust
Moaning, groaning, complaining, whining does little good if you keep giving the offenders your money. You are rewarding them for failure.........pretty much like the government did for banks, investment firms and car companies.
("Believing in" something or someone doesn't mean you trust it or trust in them, it is just a starting point).

Re: Why Would You Trust Microsoft?
Oh yea, and as far as "In God We Trust" being on all of our money,
Besides being a flagrant violation of church and state, the hidden meaning (not so hidden really) is that you can't trust the government, you can't trust business, you can't trust in anything, but God, assuming you believe in the concept of a God, or a god.
And if you don't believe in God, then you can trust in nobody or nothing.

Re: Why Would You Trust Microsoft?
River, although I had a Mac Cube I never used it much because I was a confirmed PC user until I got to use a iMac one day that is. Wow!
It's intuitive, easy to navigate. As yet there are no pesky virus issues with Macs.
I upgraded my memory once because I'm a graphics hog.
I get regular OS, browser and Microsoft for Mac updates. My iMac cost $1900 and I'll never go back to regular PC usage.
P.S. I have one Mac Cube two iMacs and one PC.

If Mac's had 95% of the computing marketplace then it would have the viruses and Malware and Windows would be free.
