Re: Halloween
Babylon Five had an episode titled "DAY OF THE DEAD" written by Neil Gaiman and if you can get to see it, it is worth the time.
From the Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5...
Once every 200 years, a comet approaches the Brakiri homeworld and signals the Day of the Dead, in which, for one night, people can interact with those who've died.

Re: Halloween
Great Bab 5 episode. Worth looking up online as they play Bab 5 now and then but, shift episodes.
Even if you are not a Bab 5 fan, this episode stands alone.
Yes, we can attribute Halloween to this or that ancient time, but still, as with Christmas and Santa Claus who also has distant origins, the U.S. of A. makes its own holiday manner and the world catches up.
I knew of Halloween making an appearance in Westernized areas and offices in Russia. Some Trick or Treating in Paris, then it disappeared. Is it happening American style anywhere else, please?
Thank You

Re: Halloween
I lost the link but, NASA Mars orbiters and Hubble have spotted some unusual new markings on the surface of the planet Mars.
Some have been associated with bursts of explosive blue hydrogen
gas.
Stay tuned.
Anyone catch it? Feel free to add what you know.
Now back to the Meridian Room at the Park Plaza Hotel.

No ! Why do you ask?
Also I enjoy maintaining e-mail, and PM communication with lots of persons on the periphery of the universe from the center here in Califo-nia?
And I became aware of American Halloween as shared earlier this thread and it disappeared. So I opened this thread to ask the question. Is there American Halloween outside America this year?
BTW River, the ancient rites on these holidays can only be guessed. No writing, no records and I doubt a reliable oral history. So when the Wicca ladies use to frolic in the meadows of Laguna Beach and the Pagens visit Stonehenge on this or that equinox or solstice, all is, what if. A guess.
I must know more because I was born on the summer solstice.

Re: Halloween
So, anyway, I have been beavering away south of the border for a bit. Comes Nov. 2 and it was Dia de los Muertos. Dios mio, the cemetary traffic. What a jam. I want the plastic flower franchise for Latin America. As we were having dinner, there was a program on about how various cultures recognize the dead. My language skills are not that great, but there were bits from, I believe, India, Africa and even the Maori in New Zealand. The idea seems as widespread as mankind and that gets back to the original question.
The program ended just as we finished dinner and we had dessert while watching another program on how haggis is made.
