Know what's in your med record.

Post by chilliwilli (imported) »

I recently went to my medical provider and was bothered by what was in the record. It was not accurate. A few years back I had gone in for a testosterone level check, I explained to my GP that I had a sexuality that I did not want expressed or be ruled by. I gave him what I thought was enough explanation so that he could have some insight into why I wanted castrated. At the time, he ordered the test, and entered a brief note about troublesome "sexual thoughts". So my new doc, who I like much better, makes comments to the effect that I'm some sort of dangerous person, and that he doesn't want to get into it! Fortunately my therapists record goes into great detail about the issues worked on last year.

I advise anyone discussing issue of a sexual nature to know what is in your record. I would approach the subject over multiple visits to better understand the willingness and ability of a GP to deal with this stuff. If your lucky you can go right to a therapist, and let the therapist deal with the medical side of your treatment.

I have had no medical provider since 1998 due to what's on my report. And yet I have no handicaps and therefore cannot qualify for disability insurance or medicaid. I was unable to join the military (it's still secret to my family as to why) so I have no veteran's benefits as miniscule as that is. I have often considered expatrioting. I really doubt that any type of reform is coming either so I may do just that.

When I hear about things like that, it really does make my blood boil. However I will keep it to my self considering how a doctor might interoperate such a disclosure.
