Pros:
Prostate Cancer - My family has a crazy history of prostate cancer. I heard castration would eliminate the chance of getting it later in life.
My Voice - I'm a professional voice actor for video games and cartoons and a singer, and I've read everywhere that castration prevents your voice from getting deeper as you get older... I'm only 21 now, but I fear when I get older it could get deeper and nasty. Not so good. My voice is highish as it is, too.
Hair Loss - I'm starting to lose my hair all of the sudden, and castration seems to be the ONLY way to successfully stop the production of testosterone and DHT. I'm totally anal about keeping my hair. I'm already on Finasteride which inhibits DHT, but apparently not too well... If I get castrated now, I won't lose any more hair due to testosterone/DHT, right?
Androgyny - I'm gay, and the submissive type... It should be pretty obvious I don't want all that manly testosterone anyway. I'd like to remain boyish/a bit girly, rather than grow into a hairy manly guy. Castration kills any future changes to my body that can be caused by testosterone, or so I've read.
---
Cons:
Sex - Sex is great, and I've read so many different opinions and mindsets on sex after castration... If I can get it up and ejaculate still, I'd be happy. I don't care if whatever comes out is pink, as long as it's possible. Yet I've read some people's penises shrink into almost nothing, and can't ever get it up again and lose their sex drive. I really don't like the sound of that. If I can at least keep my sex drive to be able to do things, and receive, that would be fantastic. Is it possible to be castrated and still have a sex drive somehow?
Depression - Depression sucks, everybody knows. I've read on several sites that you get depressed after castration, because of the lack of testosterone, which keeps you pretty much sane and not too airheaded and mentally feeble. Is there a way to counter this?
Bone Loss - Speaks for itself. Makes your bones brittle. Don't want that. Only way to counter that (and the two above) is to take testosterone medication. If I do that, then what's the point in the first place?
I'm sorry this is so long everybody, but this has constantly been on my mind for months, and it's time I just say "screw it" and say it already. I appreciate you reading all of this, and anything you can give as advice.
Thanks guys!

Welcome to the zoo.
Of the reasons you list, the "crazy history of prostate cancer" is the only valid one that I see.
However, I think you need to do a lot more reading of the board here and wait for feedback from our little Eunuch Community on what it's like to live without testosterone, or very low amounts.

Re: Would castration be right for me? Here's my reasons...
Welcome aboard.
First, things like smoking will do more to bring your voice down than castration will do to keep it the same.
Hair loss, that is not a reason to get castrated. There are other things you can do to keep your hair and your balls.
With castration you will have several health problems for the rest of your life, one is weight gain, you will be on a diet forever. Loss of sex drive unless you take HRT in witch case you will once again be at the same point you are now, loosing your hair. Other things that are even more important, bone loss, lack of energy not to mention that hot flashes that can go on for years.
I am not trying to talk you out of castration, well actually I am but if you think this is right for you there are ways to go about it safely.
First, take it on a test drive, use a chemical castration for a year or two. See if this is what you thought it would be and if its really what you want.
Second, see your doctor, tell him/her everything you have planned, get blood tests, bone scan everything. You need to have a starting point.
Third, TAKE YOUR TIME, castration is forever, you are only 21 years old, is this something you think you can live with when your 40, or 60, or 80 years old. Do you really want to be a eunuch that long?
Finally, this is the right place to get your questions answered, there are many eunuchs here and I am one. I love being a eunuch but I was 54 when I was castrated.
You have a lot of time to decide, take your time, lots of it.
Remember you must do this for you and only you, never let another talk you into this, it must be your decision so take your time.
Again, welcome to the zoo,
River

Re: Would castration be right for me? Here's my reasons...
Pros:
The voice does get lower as one ages. Castration may have little to do in preventing it.
False on castration will prevent hair loss. Some hair lose is heredity. Nothing can change that.
Castration will change your body. You may think that you want all of it. Not as easy to handle the changes. Your sex drive will go with castration. Many of your desires to be a submissive will change as well. No sex drive and the submissive may die with it. Your mind and hormones control who and what you are.
Sex drive will be greatly reduced or gone. Desire to have sex with anyone will also be reduced or stopped.
The depression will happen. Every one is different. Your mood and feelings will be altered. Some will come out of depression fast, others may never. Being castrated for the wrong reasons can cause long term depression. You may look at life very different.
Osteoporosis (bone loss) will happen to many eunuch. The younger done the greater the chance. Most eunuch's that I know have osteoporosis that are not on hormones. Taking calcium can help prevent this. You may have to take medication the rest of your life to help on the bone loss.
On your mind for only a feel months is not long enough. Most eunuch's thought about it many years if not most of their life. The smart thing is to try out castration with chemical castration. Get a idea of how it will be.
Thanks guys!

Re: Would castration be right for me? Here's my reasons...
There are definate ties to prostate cancer and the testicles , thats a medical fact. Many men who are diagnosed with it, are castrated to remove testosterone from the system. There is research being done that seems to point to other testicle secretions as the trigger for prostate cancer, so the mindset about no testosterone may change in the future.
It is more than possible to have a sex drive and even erections with a very low level of testosterone, but each person is different. You are thinking of a very drastic alteration of your body , that can not be reversed, and for relatively weak reasons.
Monitering your prostate is the best way to ensure that you do not fall victim to prostate cancer, and knowing what your current testosterone level is can be a tool in that.
As a very content eunuch who uses low dose HRT, I would not ever say that you should not remove them, but be forewarned that other than removing your ability to reproduce, and your supply of natural testosterone , you likely will not see any of the things that you think might be advantagous.
From the position as a submissive gay male, there surely are guys who would be seriously turned on by your status as a eunuch, but thats no reason to seek castration.
Think long and hard on this, keep taking meds to slow your hair loss, and if in say 5 years you still feel that you would prefer to be a eunuch m then by all means seek castration. Other than that , its better left alone.

Hi, since you are 21 I don't think I've heard of Prostate Cancer in men in their 20s. Or very few until age 45.... most are over 50. Also osteoporosis can begin with castration at an early age, leaving you with less bone than a later-in-life eunuch. The advice here is really good... this is a great website! Reading what I've read here, which is a lot, most of those who sought castration did it for stronger reasons that softening their own "edges".

Re: Would castration be right for me? Here's my reasons...
I think what Bobbie said is pretty close to perfect but I don't think I would even give chemical castration a trial because when your hormones tank your perception of how you are changes. You may well feel that its normal and go forward. By normal I mean the lack of any interest in sex and depression.
I think it far better to seek specific solutions to the issues you mention.
Prostate cancer is scary. Get regular PSAs and a DRE. Maybe talk to your doctor about taking OTC things like Saw Palmeto. Ask him or her what else you can do to avoid this as an issue.
Voice. I don't know a lot about this but why not talk to a voice teacher and plan out somthing?
Sex. I gather your happy being what you are. Sex IS good. Castration will take that away unless you go on HRT and if you do that why go with castration? I think the idea that castration will make you more into being submissive is totally wrong. I think it more likely that it will make you think "What is the point of this stupid stuff?" And by "Stupid stuff" I mean anything dealing with sex.
Anyway, just my two cents worth. Focus on the "problem" first then look for specific solutions.
good luck!

Thanks for the information, guys! I really appreciate the honest feedback. I'm glad you're not a bunch of guys who are urging me to do it on a whim. I've decided not to get this done after all. There are other alternatives, and hopefully there will be real cures for these problems soon, that don't require me to remove Jim and Tim.
I really appreciate all of the info you guys have given me!

Not necessarily. Your adrenal androgens might keep that androgenic alopecia going strong.
