I had the C drive fail on one of my computers, so I bought a new hard drive and am trying to reinstall Windows. I keep getting the message, "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key."
As I remember, I had trouble installing Windows on this computer the first time (a computer I built) and had to have someone do it for me. I tried selecting the CD drive as primary boot, but that didn't help.
Any ideas?

Here is a link from MS to make a bootable floppy to start the XP install:

Hope this helps

Re: Reinstalling Windows XP
I see this board is moderated, which delayed the posting of my previous post. By the time it was posted, I had arrived at a solution: I bought a copy of Windows Vista. The XP disk wouldn't boot for some reason.
Re: Reinstalling Windows XP
That's sad, you bought Vista.
I had an email out to my resident repairman about it.
I have no idea why it wouldn't boot from an XP CD when the first boot device in BIOS was CD.
Oh, and actually, this should have gone under "Tech and Computer" since this board is for Archive-related tech issues, like, say, "the main page has funny pictures on it." OR "I can't log in."
We had to moderate it because of spam attacks.

Re: Reinstalling Windows XP
First thing is to go into your Bios and check to make sure that the correct hard drive is selected to be booted from.
