I'm always very wary of e-mail as, presumably because of the nature of my writings at eunuch.org, I seem to be targeted by certain vigilanties to receive viruses. I frequently receive a seemingly nice message inviting me to click something so that I can obtain something that might be of interest to me. Naturally, I automatically trash it. However, I'd like to know whether this is a common phenomenon with authors to/other users of this great board.
Anyone care to advise me?

Re: About these virus...
Pueros,
I trash at least a dozen emails every day. Most I suspect are merely spam, but from time to time curiosity will drive me to VERY CAREFULLY download one, file and scan the attachment, and often they are infected.
As a matter of interest I maintain an email server with about 2000 clients. I scan every message coming and going and I catch on average 100 or more infected messages every single day, and occasionally one gets through, only to be caught on the workstation. IMHO this is another form of terrorism and it is getting worse!

Re: About these virus...
In my HotMail account, which is the recipient of everything that I do online, I get about 40 to 50 pieces of spam every day. Most of them are 1-2-3k or so, and sometimes they're really funny and entertaining.
Enlarge your penis, have some viagra (regular or herbal), burn some DVD's with a CDRW drive, and refinance your house while smoking some new healthier cigarettes and watching live nude girls who like farm animals!
But wait! There's better MP3 ripping software out there, and now you can watch DVD's on any old CDR drive while you look at some young fellow's penis; he's obviously read the email about enlarging it and he wants to show it to you too!
:p
I never get any kind of 'vigilante' email anymore, unless that's what all the viruses directed to archive@eunuch.org are all about. Keep in mind, there are bots that scan websites and collect email addresses. Some of them are even smart enough to read the coding of your email! Say you put MyName@_remove_this_MyIsp.com; well, there are actually bots out there smart enough to read the code, and refit the false address you give!
One thing I did get a lot of, when I was on Usenet and reading photo groups (many of which were shut down because they got labelled as porn sites, which many weren't) were tons of virus infected emails. I learned fast not to put a real email address into a news reader.
Just keep in mind that not everyone out there is a nice person, even if he did enlarge his penis or if she wants you to see her live and nude ... heh.

Re: About these virus...
I'm really talking about the clearly directly targeted e-mails that I receive. They're personally addressed and manipulated to entice me, Pueros, to open attachments. Time & effort has obviously been taken to prepare them. I believe that I can tell the difference between 'Spam' & such messages. I was enquiring to try to elicit whether anyone else had received so much careful attention.

I don't get THAT kind of careful attention - not now - but I believe that the Archive in general does. I used to, though, as I mentioned, when I was using Usenet. I'm sure if I wrote more stories or posted stories elsewhere, then I would. I just don't have the time do it.
Re: About these virus...
A typical example of the attention I receive is the following message (actually presented in colour) purporting to come from video.greeting@picturesonthenet.com. However, no such site exists. I'm sure that if I did click where the message asks, I'd receive a nice virus in return!
'PUEROS:

You have (1) new video greeting(s) waiting for PUEROS@HOTMAIL.COM.
Please click here to view.
Note: A Web Cam is not required to view video.'
All other users of the board should beware of such 'gifts'!
