Story archive should be upgraded

Post by jockey_elance (imported) »

I was thinking today that the story section of this site should be upgraded. It would be cool if the story's had more specific ways to classify them, such as the level of violence and so on, and you could search for keywords to find what you want. They could also be separated into genres such as science fiction, fantasy, realistic, ect. Each story could have a short summary about it that could be viewed before they click on it, to help people find stories they like. Most importantly, people should be able to comment on the stories underneath them, like a blog entry.

Several other threads along this line exist on the boards. Take a look around and check them out.

Long story short; your comments make sense on the surface, but the reality of the situation is quite different. Change will not happen soon, too many difficulties in making changes.

Risking the possibilty of sounding snide here, but what the hell:

Go ahead and make any improvements you would like, the EA is always looking for volunteers and donations...

I am not so sure I would suggest doing many changes to the story archive.

It is FREE, so far I have gotten a LOT of entertainment, enlightenment, and education from the EA story archive and not paid a penny for it (other than my internet service and cost of my computer).

As I understand, the "v-bulletin" software or something like that is supposed to be implacable, unalterable, and just plain incompatible with any change. The only way to change it would be to start everything from scratch, you know, have to discover fire all over again, each and every story has to be individually re-formated and put in a new software thing, and that would cost a lot of time and money.

While I would LOVE to have some more features, like a "readers ratings" thing, I am not too sure I would want some people's comments on the same place as the stories.

So, even though I would like to have a few improvment also, I think it through and realize even simple little improvements are going to COST a lot so I think it is best to just leave it be for now.

I think the easiest way for it to happen would be to classify things as they are already classified once you click the link for the story. IE they are already, mostly, classified into Gay/Straight/Bi, Testicles/penectomy/nullification, etc.

Moving to more specific topics beyond that would be difficult only because all the archive stories would have to be re-read by the moderators and given additional classifications (IE husband/wife/minor, etc.) As those were never put into the headers on the stories to begin with.

If the archive staff were able to create a system where those tags could be placed on the stories so they could be segregated by a check-box, I might be willing to help populate the database that would allow for that type of segmentation.

If they're interested, the moderators should feel free to get in touch with me.

If it is too hard to reorganize the stories, than one idea would be to make the current database of stories "archive only", so that you can only read them but not add more. Then there could be a new system for all the new stories, which could work the way I described. There is probably software similar to what this forum uses that people could post stories to. People could still read the old stories though, and just not have as many options to seach through them. Also, if some of the people who wrote the old stories are still around, some of them might want to copy and past their stories to the new database, so there could be a lot of stories in the new section right away.

One of the most effective indexers of the Archive fiction board is Google. They crawl through us all the time. In your search enter Eunuch Archive and then your criteria. Usually pretty effective.

And best of all, if you go here - http://www.eunuch.org/main/index.php?special=stories and use the "Search the stories (beta):" box in the bottom left corner...

Hello Kristoff and others,

I guess nobody knows me here, but, I’ve been a bit of a ‘lurker’ off and on at EA for several years. I like to write violent fan-fiction stories including sexual content, genital torture, and castration as part of the story. I am a fan of the Harry Potter, Hex, and Dr. Who series.

I wrote a Harry Potter based castration story that was posted on EA in November,

/url]

I had an older Harry Potter story that was novel length that picks up right after the events in Half Blood Prince. After seeing the movie version this summer I started reworking it, and decided to try submitting it here. To the best of my understanding of the submission guidelines the story is an appropriate submission for EA.

I submitted the first four chapters last week, they weren’t listed among the “New Stories,” and a search as mentioned above won’t turn them up, but they are here at the links below.

So, I’m a bit confused, they are here, but they are not here? Did I do something wrong in my submission? Are the chapters rejected? Is there an error or oversight that caused them to fall through the cracks? I don’t know, I’m just asking.

Yes, I sent an email to Paolo last week at the email shown for him, but I have received no reply. So, I thought I would just ask here.

Thanks….
