I'm here to tell you, functional addiction is only temporary. You can only do something that difficult for so long until you start to slip or your tolerance gets to a ridiculous point before your a non-functional addict. I've been a functional addict for almost 13 yrs and now a lot of it is catching up with me. (severe memory problems, irregular heartbeat, etc).

And you know your an addict when you NEED it just to feel 'normal'. If your an addict you would start to get sick (withdrawal) if you didn't have it.
Are you an alcoholic? When do you know you have become addicted?

Re: Are you an alcoholic? When do you know you have become addicted?
From a post by Elisabeth:
Elisabeth, well said and I should have said it, as I have experience and I also was a wounderer, and when a friend invited me to an AA meeting,I asked my wife what she thought and she said I needed to go.I was 50 at the time and it hurts to think of all those wasted years.I have 26 years of being sober.

Only those with drinking problems wonder if they have a drinking problem. Because they already know the answer.
