I was hoping to find out if there were any doctors doing elective castrations without needing letters from a shrink? Waited to long to see Kimmel.

At the present time we have no replacement for Dr Kimmel. The doctors that we know of that will do elective surgery will require a psychiatrist.

I know the thought of going to s psychiatrist can be scary. Is being castrated any more? So you go to see one and just explain why you have this kind of feelings. Consider as a test to see if castration is really right for you. Once castrated there is no do over's.

Contact Jesus from this web site. He has some very good letters you can give to your doctor or psychiatrist. It will explain why people have desires to be castrated for other then just sex change.

I have found that female psychiatrists are more sympathetic and understanding. Don't be afraid to see one, you'll experience what I call a

"revelation." If you've never talked openly to anyone about your desire, you'll feel as if a burden has been removed and you'll come away feeling very enlightened and positive about the experience. Most shrinks have heard it all, even women shrinks. And if your first psychiatrist doesn't sign off so that you can be castrated, try another one. You might even look for a psychiatrist that deals with sexual issues. Keep pursuing until you achieve what you want. Best of luck.

I have inquired with a couple of Phychiatrists (female) and they understand our interest. Never did I get dismissed. Inquired about fees and I expect about $150 per session. One phone session and one in person should do it assuming you are sincere and honest about desire. Pick up the phone!

As a side note, when the time comes, should I spring for the extra sack removal or let nature do the shriveling?

I saved extra for the sack removal and am very happy with the results

I would recommend having the sack removed only if you are not planning

I too think everyone should see a shrink, at least if you live in an urban area where you can find some that are experienced with all sorts of extreme mental issues.

I've never had any problem with them. They are still human, so may have some biases (such as religious), so you may need to try a couple. I too prefer female doctors, since a female has little problem imagining life without testicles.

It is a big relief to have someone to talk to about it, and someone who you can call in an emergency when you're in some state standing in your kitchen with a carving knife about to whack off (pun not intended) your genitals.

I just moved, and it was a bit of a chore to go through the always embarrassing process of describing the details of my urges to a new care provider (first a nurse, then a counselor, then the psychologist), but I was pleasantly surprised that they were very professional and are sincere in helping.

You also owe it to yourself to find out if your urges are in fact a mental imbalance or bio-chemical imbalance. For example, In my case, when I'm given libido-suppressing drugs, I lose my desire to damage my genitals, so I know it is not a gender identity disorder. They're actually going to do some other tests, MRI and such, to ensure that it is not some impulse control problem.

Anyway, it is actually a very positive experience to have a psychological care provider.

While I didn't have to attend with a shrink to obtain a letter to be neutered, I did so anyway as part of making sure that I'd likely be OK following removal of my parts. I went to a woman psychologist/counsellor that was a transsexual. I found it very helpful. She had absolutely no problems with BIID. In my case, it was reassuring to know that there are a lot o' other guys out there that have wanted their genitalia severed and have been fine after they've followed through with the desire.

I live outside a small rural town in southern Alberta. I know of no one in the area that deals with these issues. They call this the bible belt and these kinds of things are not talked about. Being a farm boy I think I will just use the old burdizzo on myself and when I am all healed up go to see a doc to have the remains removed. Thanks for your concern and the information, I'll let you know how things go, if and when.

About 2 months ago, I sent an email to Dr. Alter and Dr. Marci Bowers regarding elective orchiectomies for non transgendered males. Dr. Alter never replied, though Dr. Bowers' office did within a week of my initial email. The response repeated what everyone has indicated about needing a letter from a mental health professional- in Dr. Bowers' case, she requires a PhD-level therapist recommendation- and a letter from a urologist. However, one point that was mentioned was the relative ease of obtaining such letters: "If there is a reasonable request for an orchiectomy, most therapists and doctors, in our experience, will listen to a person's request and assist by writing letters." This has never been my experience with physicians, but I guess one gets what he pays for.

In any event, I'm curious about the preparation/conditions to get orchiectomy in the first place. Would a shrink want you to live on testosterone blockade for a year in order to see if you can handle life without sufficiently active testosterone? I'd prefer simply to lose the nuts and go on testosterone replacement therapy, as I hate the look of my testes, but not androgens themselves. There are probably others here who share a similar genital dysphoria yet desire to maintain a male range of testosterone.
