Old days of dialup.... clicks of modem (no tone dialing in Russia), determining connection speed by the sound. Noisy lines... 56k was a big luck... more like 21600 ;)

Memories, memories of university, liberating few phone lines and setting up free dialup.

PS. Not so old days here. I switched from dialup to the local network in 2005.

That doesn't seem long enough. I seem to remember the process taking much longer, with more noises etc.

Glad it is over though.

Back to dial-up speeds at times here, on broadband, in Wales, last night it was 5.6kBytes/sec, Youtube, and similar video services, are impossible to watch. We need a full fibre-optic network to the room.

Hey I am still enjoying Windows 98 and dial up. On the other side of the apartment is Windows Vista and RoadRunner Turbo. Of course I still own a turntable and my watches are mechanical. My idea of a GPS is the foldable variety. My idea of downloading music is to go down to the store and buy a compact disc or a vinyl record. Of course I love my I Phone!

Will it help? It's provider's channel to the internet that matters.

Two party lines were more fun.. You could listen into the other persons conversation.

Two Party? I remember when we were on a six (yes 6) party line. Not only that, I remember the old wall crank phone line on some of the old sitcoms. Never used one but my relatives did.

Everyone now has a 7 DIGIT number. I remember when our phone prefix was SUnset5-3609. That was many moons ago. That was actually 7 but you had to look the SU prefix up on the dial face.
