I am scheduled for my orchiectomy with dr. Kimmel/Spector in a few weeks, and I am wondering how will I know for certain (!) that I have been castrated, short of watching the procedure myself. Does anyone out there have experience with Dr. Kimmel? Can you let me know what your experiences have been? Do those "lumps" go away? Couldn't the lowered libido and mood change be psychological? Are the testes that he shows the patients really their own or someone else's? Just concerned.

Re: castration for real?
I haven't been to Philly to see them, but I have met people who have, and from what they've told me, YOU'LL KNOW for sure. In fact, I'd almost expect him to hold them up and show you once they're cut out.
It's not a "take your money and try to fool you" thing. If you've set up the appt. and paid, there's a real castration involved when you walk in the door. If you're going to their office, then you're coming back out, but your balls aren't. Well .... they might be - in a glass jar - so I'm told.

In six months to a year have somebody kick you in the crotch.
If they are still there, believe me, you'll know it.

When I was castrated by Dr. Spector, he madea point of showing me both testicles as they came off. After the second, he exclaimed "Congratulations! You are now a eunuch!"
Whether Dr. Kimmel will do the same, I don't know. You can ask him. Dr.Kimmel was the one who removed my EMPTY scrotum last January, so it must be obvious that Dr. Spector removed the testicles last May.
So fear not. You will be paying good money to have them removed, and they WILL be removed. The lowered libido and psycological changes WILL be real.
And do write up a complete account of your experience and post it on this message board, please.

Thanks everybody for the responses so far. Good information. I especially like the idae of kicking myself in the crotch! Ouch! I hadn't thought of that, but it would prove pretty well that I had been castrated or not. Why do I always miss the obvious?

Here is something else to convince you it is all real. Have a picture taken of you in your swimsuit now. Several months after castration, have another picture taken. Unless you have gone on a vigorous and extensive exercise program, you will note how much your shoulders have narrowed, and how much muscle definition you have lost in the upper torso. As testosterone levels drop in your body, muscle mass fades away and turns into fat.
