Eunuch Archer's Update

Those who have been following the thread, "After Five Years, Prostate Cancer Attacked Again," will know I'm getting both barrels, Lupron every 4 months, and Apalutamide daily. The Lupron injections are painless, and the effect is almost immediate.

I just had my second shot of Lupron yesterday and ...

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

The loss of strength is the most serious. That, and the loss of endurance that accompanied it. I'm now drawing 45#. Fortunately, the furthest I have to shoot at my advanced age is 45m. Apalutamide is a very gentle but thorough partner to Lupron, but neither impairs judgment.

I'll need all my ...

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

The day I most dreaded has arrived. I will receive a call from the medical oncologist this afternoon, before I start my first month's supply of Apalutamide tablets, tomorrow morning. Stay tuned.

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

My bowyer was at the club shoot yesterday, and insisted I shoot a 29# recurve bow. It took some getting used to, but I managed some good shots. The bow has interchangeable limbs, so I can increase the draw to 45#, while he finishes my 45# longbow. It's important to stay active, because moping around ...

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

The medical oncologist told me I'll be on Lupron for life. It appears I'll remain a eunuch as long as I live. I have a very patient wife, lover and girlfriend all in the same package. Sex life? . . . All I have are the memories. There's far worse fates. Foh uck!

Re: About Chemical Castration - Read This First

There's a positive aspect to being on a dose of Lupron eight times stronger than last time. Razors last longer because one's beard has softened.

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

The care I'm getting is called palliative care for a reason. There's no talk of a cure, but if it buys me ten years I'll be grateful. I'm still flinging arrows, every other day, although the length of time I can hold a 50# longbow has been reduced.

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

Much earlier this month I had a whole body bone scan. My GP phoned with the results : far from retreating, the cancer is in the ischium, as well as the fifth and sixth ribs. That explains the lumbar pain. It only takes one awshit to cancel six attaboys. I'm in it for the long haul, and the Lupron ...

Re: After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

Thank you CBtoOx! I have lost strength, and can no longer draw a 50# longbow. Fortunately, a loss in muscle mass does not affect the brain. Prostate cancer is a worthy adversary and anything one can do to outwit it should be tried. I now shoot a detuned warbow, drawing 45#

Speaking of sex ...

After 5 years, prostate cancer attacked again

I'm back! My PSA was below what some women score, which was OK by me. After five years, during which my strength returned to precancer levels, I noticed with alarm that all the adipose tissue had disappeared from below my navel. Suspecting that my assailant had returned, I called my GP. He acted ...
