I did like the storytelling and everything, but as a (sort of) swordsmand, I'd like to point out one little detail.

Rapier was not a flimsy duelling sword of a quite recent period.

"Don't do this to yourself for the sake of someone else." Do it for YOU, and no one else, if that is what makes YOU happy.
