Re: The Cell Phone Thread
Yes, that is for the point source.
I've done a bit of calculation,
basically said, that a line source is a collection of point sources. Then, by the principle of superposition, I summed all fields of those points:
for one point: p/(r²+x²), where x is a distance from the point, p is source ...

Re: The Cell Phone Thread
Power from any source (radioactive, light, sound, etc) is proportional to reverse of squared distance. (1/r²).
).
A minor point. If my memory serves me, that is referring to a point source of radiation. On power lines where there is a line source of radiation the power is proportional to the ...

Re: An afternoon with Transward
I am slow to respond to this thread. I just started a new job, cooking for 40 in a home for "developmentally disabled adults," which is kicking my butt physically. ( I was not in shape to spend eight hours a day on my feet running non-stop.) Plus at the same time I came down with the worst cold I've ...

Re: Eye Surgery
A number of years ago, I was working as an optician for an opthalmologist in Colorado Springs. We had an elderly patient with cataracts in both eyes, badly in need of surgery. Unfortunately he also had the acute form of glaucoma, that can destroy not only vision, but the eye itself, and the Dr ...

Re: NOT seen in the bake-off
In Seattle, we have an "Erotic Bakery." (or we had, I haven't checked lately). In late 90s I catered an opening of a new body piercing shop, and ordered a very large cake topped with very realistic vagina and penis, each pierced w/ several real gold rings. Was amazingly realistic. They said their ...

Re: The Hobbit
I think a lot of the problem is the different tones of the two books. LOTR is epic drama, nearly high tragedy; the Hobbit is much closer to a fairy tale.
I believe Tolkien wrote it as a children's book; LOTR is for adults. In the Hobbit t
he tone is much lighter, the impending calamities are ...

Re: The Hobbit
I think a lot of the problem is the different tones of the two books. LOTR is epic drama, nearly high tragedy; the Hobbit is much closer to a fairy tale. The tone is much lighter, the impending calamities are but a small cloud on the distant horizon. Jackson's style suited LOTR; I don't think it ...

Machete
By chance today, while looking for another show, I happened upon the last 30 or so minutes of the movie Machete, starring Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin, Lindsey Lohan, Robert De Niro, and others. I have no idea what the plot was; I'm not sure it had one. It had something to do with good guys and bad ...

Strange world.
Today my 93 year old parents celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary. 25 years ago my gay brother, who is quite well known in the gay S&M scene world wide, adopted his partner in order to gain some of the legal benefits of marriage long before gay marriage appeared on the scene. I flew down and ...

NB: I'm a vinegrette, croutons and olive oil fan for my salads. Never liked dressings.
