Stop and consider how little of the interaction between the user and a modern PC actually goes through the keyboard, rather than via the mouse. Just think how little use collecting keystrokes would be if you didn't know what was on the screen?

I'm surprised that this thread has reached 36 posts without anyone noting that in the 17th and 18th centuries it was more or less mandatory for one or more of the leading roles in any opera to be written for a castrato.
